The Damayan party-list visited the families in Batangas province, who have been evacuated to temporary shelters after the Taal Volcano recently showed signs of unrest.

The group’s nominees Manuel “Even” Reyes VII, Guillermo “Jay” Hernandez Jr., and Christopher Gallego visited some evacuation centers in the towns Laurel and Agoncillo on March 29, to check on the situation of the evacuees.

Reyes said the visit was in solidarity with the evacuees who have been struggling in the past weeks.

“Sa ating mga kababayang Batangueno, asahan niyo na nandito ang Damayan Partylist sa lahat panahon para tulungan kayo,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Asahan ninyo na nandito ang Damayan partylist para dumamay sa inyo,” he added.

The nominees were accompanied by Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste. They also paid a courtesy call to Agoncillo Mayor Daniel Reyes.

Tall Volcano had been under Alert Level 2 since July last year.

On March 26, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Alert Level 3 at Taal, a warning that magmatic eruptions could follow.

The volcano’s last major eruption was in January 2020, displacing more than 300,000 people from surrounding towns.
