The Damayan party list vowed to work on measures that will significantly improve internet services across the country if it secures a seat in Congress.

Manuel “Even” Reyes VII, the group’s first nominee, said that leveling up means equalizing the quality of broadband between urban and rural areas.

To achieve this, he emphasized the need to have a fair and open competition in the data transmission industry.

What the country needs, he explained, is a measure that will avoid dominance by a single player or by a group of data providers.

“We should give more competitiveness to the market… something more competitive because we need to have more connectivity,” Reyes said.

Damayan’s third nominee Christopher Gallego, for his part, said that an improved internet is essential to ensure that communities are at the center of efforts to build back better post-Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic, he said, further highlighted the importance of the internet in education and creating more jobs.

“And you can only have efficiency on those jobs if we have proper internet connection,” Gallego said.
